Now what? Four live sessions for figuring it out, together.
Most career advice assumes you already know what you want. A lot of people don't. They're standing at "now what?" — and the honest answer is that they can't yet say. That's where people get stuck for years, waiting for clarity to arrive on its own.
Chart your Course is a 4-week small group class for anyone unsure of where to go next career-wise — maybe you're mid-career and certain the job you're in isn't it, recently laid off, returning after time away, or have newly graduated and are already unsure. Anywhere you are, you're welcome here.
Throughout our sessions, you'll choose between 2-4 different paths you're considering and want to learn more about. You'll walk away with: a list of directions you've investigated, a clearer inventory on the skills you already have and which ones you'd need to build, practice asking other people about their work, and a documented plan for what comes next, whether that's a targeted job search, a specific credential, or the informed decision to stay where you are.
What to Expect
Four 50-minute sessions, across the course of 4 weeks. Each one ends with a small, low-lift assignment.
Session 1 — Where You've Been. We start with your intake and everything you've done: jobs, internships, coursework, volunteering, caregiving. What you actually liked and disliked about each, in detail. Then we name the 2-4 paths you want to explore during these four sessions and identify the smallest possible way to start learning about it.
Session 2 — Patterns and Skills. We look at what surfaced in your likes and dislikes, and what your first experiment taught you. From there we identify the skills a new direction would require, then go back to your resume to compare what you've actually done against what's on the page — often including a skills-based approach to your resume. Some directions get a next step. Some get dropped, and that's a good outcome.
Session 3 — Talking to People. We look at which skills you have and which you'd need to develop, then move outward: how to learn from people already doing the work. You'll leave with an outreach plan, a short list of people to contact, and questions worth asking. Informational interviews are a learnable skill, and most people do them badly because no one taught them how.
Session 4 — What You Know Now. We reflect on what the four weeks turned up, document it so it doesn't evaporate, and build your plan from here. By this point you've run several small experiments, and the pattern across them is usually clearer than any single one.
